2008 fighter of the year candidates

THIAGO ALVES
With his knockout of Karo Parisyan, Matt Hughes and victory over Josh Koscheck, Thiago Alves successfully knocked off 3 top ranked welterweights. He is the only person to stop Parisyan in the UFC, and scored a brutal KO over a legend in Matt Hughes. His defeat over Koscheck was also impressive and solidified himself as the top 170 pound contender for GSP's title.

BROCK LESNAR
Although he lost to Frank MIr in February, he came back to defeat Heath Herring and knock out Randy Couture to become UFC champ in his 4th MMA fight. Lesnar's rise to the top of the MMA world will give him many votes as this year's top fighter.

If Rashad Evans scores a spectacular KO to defeat Forrest Griffin at UFC 92, he can be thrown into the hat as one of the top fighters this year, and have a belt around his waist in the process?

I can't think of anyone who even comes close to Eddie Alvarez and Thiago Alves this year. But if Eddie Alvarez fights and beats Aoki on NYE that's 3 top ten fighters this year and a 5-0 record overall for 2008. It will be hard to argue that.
