BJ Penn reigns supreme at lightweight

BJ Penn defeated Diego Sanchez at UFC 107 to once again defend his lightweight crown and further cement himself as the greatest 155er in the history of the game. The fight witnessed Sanchez sporadically charging in with kicks and punches, and continually being countered with punches from Penn. In round 1 Penn dropped Sanchez and it looked like it was over. For the vast majority of fighter it would have been, but Sanchez has amazing heart and conditioning and he was able to survive the onslaught and resume fighting. But after Penn turned it up a notch again in round 5, a brutally deep gash to Sanchez's forhead resulting from Penn's shin would stop the bout as blood poured down Diego's face.

Sanchez showed great heart but the champ's skills were too much for the challenger. Potential contenders for Penn down the line include Gray Maynard, should he dispatch of Nate Diaz; Frankie Edgar, who is itching for a title shot; as well as Tyson Griffin.
