Elite XC Primetime excites fans and breaks MMA ratings record

MMA's mainstream debut on CBS was a great one. Elite XC's show Saturday night was a ratings success and the last 20 minutes drew 6.51 million viewers. The show was an excellent one as well. Baroni-Villasenor was a great bout, as was Rogers-Murphy. The classic war between Robbie Lawler and Scott Smith was outstanding and Kaitlin Young versus Gina Carano was a highly entertaining bout too. Kimbo Slice and James Thompson also battled it out in a very entertaining main event. The only grievance I have is with some finishes which appeared out of the ordinary. Kaitlin Young's cut didn't seem severe enough to stop the bout, Thompson wasn't dropped before the fight was stopped versus Kimbo, Baroni was dazed but not given a chance to work his way out of a bad spot in the standing position, and Scott Smith wasn't given the full 5 minutes to recover from an eye poke. I feel perhaps there was concern of having a severe injury on prime time TV.
Nonetheless I was very pleased with entertainment value the show brought to the table Saturday night. Congrats to Elite XC for putting together a great broadcast.
