Fedor reigns Supreme once again

Brett Rogers was impressive in his Strikeforce main event fight against top ranked heavyweight Fedor Emelianenko, but once again the Russian sensation, considered by many as the greatest of all-time, came through with a TKO victory in round 2. While Rogers wasn't as aggressive as I thought he might be on the feet, and not as aggressively as he wanted to be as he mentioned during his post fight comments, he did land a jab that split open Fedor's nose, he landed some great ground and pound when he had the opportunity to get on top of Fedor, and generally did a lot better than many expected and took Fedor into the second round for the first time since 2006. Fedor once again showed amazing timing, accuracy, power and instinct in leaping into the air and whaling a colossal right that sent Rogers down and was the end of the night for the challenger. Fedor has finished his last 8 opponents and now improves to 31-1-0.

Up next for "The Last Emperor" could be the other victorious heavyweight on the card, Fabricio Werdum, who defeated Antonio Silva via decision. After losing the first round, Werdum came back to win rounds 2 and 3 to take the decision win. Werdum expressed great interest in fighting Fedor after his victory.

Also on the Strikeforce card, Jake Shields defeated Jason "Mayhem" Miller to win the middleweight title. Shields controlled most of the action with numerous takedowns, great control on the ground, scoring the mount and back positions many times. While have a Jiu-Jitsu stranglehold on the fight from a control perspective, it was actually "Mayhem" who had the closest chance of finishing the bout on the ground when he sunk in a very deep rear naked choke that was on until the end of the bell of round 3. Nonetheless, Shields won the unanimous decision to secure the 185 pound title.

Gegard Mousasi defeated Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou, after "The African Assassin" was giving Mousasi many problems in the first round with several throws in the opening 5 minutes. Nonetheless, the Strikeforce light heavyweight champion showed his championship form in round 2 to finish off Sokoudjou via TKO from strikes on the ground.
