Forrest Griffin rebounds with win over Tito Ortiz

Forrest Griffin worked his way back up the 205 pound ladder in the UFC with a decision win over Tito Ortiz at UFC 106. Griffin looked solid on the feet, and when was not able to stuff Ortiz's takedowns and was planted on the mat, Griffin found a way to sweep or scramble back to his feet. The only major damage he received was in round 2 but it was clear he was very prepared for the onslaught Ortiz usually lands from the top position, and Griffin learned a lot from his first bout with the "Huntington Beach Bad Boy."

It was good to see Griffin back and in good spirits. Losing to Silva in the fashion he did mentally broke him and it was nice to him get back on that horse again and get a win under his belt. Griffin's entrance music was Tubthumping by Chumbawamba, which resonated well with the crowd. The lyrics "I get knocked down but I get up again, you're never going to keep me down" reverberated throughout the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas that evening, and was a great symbol for Griffin's journey to UFC 106. The words in that tune parallel what great fighters and champions must chant within their own minds after a tough defeat. There's probably no more damaging a loss in athletics from a mental perspective than losing a fight. There's so much on the line, you're ego can be crushed, and there's nobody to blame. There's no teammates that you can point a finger to, it's just yourself out there. While your corner has your back, ultimately it is your own body, mind and heart that is being put on the line. To come back strong takes heart and courage and Griffin showed that by getting knocked down and getting back up again and scoring a big win in the process for doing so.
