MMAjunkie is reporting that a deal between NBC and Strikeforce will be announced soon. Apparently fights from the Strikeforce archive will be showcased on this episodes on NBC. This is a good thing for MMA, to have coverage on a such a big network. The wide scope of NBC will allow viewers across the nation to either get introduced to the sport, or introduced to stars and an organization outside the UFC. Greater competition in the MMA landscape in terms of mainstream acceptance will make for more choice for fans, as well as more opportunities for fighters. It'll be great to see these fighters have more chances to showcase their skills and be compensated well for their hard work in training and enduring battles inside the cages and rings their compete in.
I look forward to seeing the greater MMA coverage, but I don't want it to get to the point where it's going to be so prevalent that it becomes watered down and irritating. The television world will run with someone as it's hot and just bludgeon it to death, while they're still able to extract any viewership out of it. This was a theme in the poker boom experienced earlier this decade. Every sort of poker show was being put on television and people seemed to be inundated with the coverage. This trend maybe start to occur with MMA as well. There's going to be a show on BET covering MMA, Tito Ortiz is creating a reality series evidently where he is recruiting people who have feuds with their buddies to come and train and duke it out in an MMA match. There's probably hundreds of more MMA related TV show concoctions being cooked up right now. I'm certainly not going to complain about the great popularity of the sport, which has opened many doors for many people. But I don't want people to be inundated with the sport to the point where the quality of programming being put out there is lackluster.
