Randy Couture versus Brandon Vera set for UFC 105

UFC 105 will be all about 205, when Randy Couture drops back down to light-heavyweight to take on Brandon Vera.

Both are coming off fights at UFC 102, Vera victorious, Couture defeated in an excellent battle with Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira.

Stylistically this will be an interesting matchup. Vera I'd give the striking and submission edge too, but submission-wise Couture will be very tough to tap out--not even the heavyweight grappling master Nogueira could do it, so despite Vera's slick submission savvy skillset, he'll likely not be able to secure any holds to finish the bout.

Vera's best advantage is in the striking. He's technical, methodical and can pick opponents apart. He can knock you out, but he has been more of a tactician pecking away and chopping down opponents slowly in his last few bouts as opposed to using brute KO power to finish off his foes.

Couture has worked a lot on boxing over the years and I think will be able to do well on the feet in terms of striking to set up a takedown. I think his wrestling is good enough to score takedowns and from there he can use his classic ground and pound tactics to outpoint Vera.

Tough fight to call, but I'll go with Couture in a decision victory, which will be a close and technical bout.
