UFC 104 post fight thoughts

Machida scored the decision win over Shogun, albeit a controversial one. Some rounds were quite close but I scored it about 4 rounds to 1 for Shogun, but all 3 judges disagreed and gave it 3 rounds to 2 for Machida. I'm a fan of both fighters and was happy if either Brazilian light heavyweight won, but I think Shogun should be wearing that UFC gold around his waist. Nonetheless, both fighters laid it all out on the line and put on a technical and methodical fight.

Cain Velasquez looked great in his TKO win over Ben Rothwell. I thought Rothwell was still alive and kicking when the ref jumped in, but after watching replays I was as disturbed about the stoppage. I still think it was early but the ref has the best seat in the house and has to make a split second call on these things. I think if it was a ref like Mario Yamasaki as opposed to Steve Mazzagati, I think the fight would have still went on. But you never really know and can't gage what the referee is seeing up close and live when he's looking into the fighters' eyes, as opposed to me viewing the situation on TV. All I know is Rothwell is extremely tough and looked like could have not only continued but stayed competitive in the bout. Nevertheless, I think it was going to be Velasquez's night at UFC 104 either way. He was on fire and scoring takedown after takedown and being relentless with his ground and pound. At some point I do feel he'll be wearing UFC heavyweight gold.
