UFC 82 is Stacked

ufc82.jpg

UFC 82 in Columbus is generating a lot of buzz and justifiably so. This card has some exciting bouts. Anytime you have Andrei Arlovski, Diego Sanchez and Josh Koscheck on an undercard, you know that's stacked card. Arlovski's a former champion and Sanchez and Koscheck generated a big buzz from their success on TUF 1 and beyond into the UFC. The main card is a solid one. Dan Henderson versus Anderson Silva is going to be classic battle. Unifying the Pride and UFC 185 pound titles is a historic moment, and Henderson gets a chance to add to his collection of hardware, as does Silva.

Evan Tanner's return to action is a great sight. But he's up against a mammoth of a middleweight right off the back in Yushin Okami. Welcome back Evan. There's no tuneup fight for you to get your feet wet and back into the swing of things. Chris Leben fresh off a new deal with the UFC takes on Alessio Sakara, trying to revitalize his career at middleweight. Heath Herring goes up against rising heavyweight star in Cheick Kongo, which could lead to a heavyweight title shot if Kongo wins. The heavyweight division in the UFC is lacking once again with the departure of Cro Cop, Couture on the sidelines, Josh Barnett on bad terms with UFC president Dana White and of course Fedor Emelianenko not being able to come to terms with the UFC for a deal as well. Many of the top heavyweights in the sport are not in the biggest league in the world for MMA, but that leaves the door wide open for guys like Kongo to make the best of this opportunity. A win over Herring could get him right into title contention.
