UFC champ Anderson Silva to retire in 2009?

According to a recent report from Brazilian TV, Anderson Silva will look to retire next year. Editors of the show say Silva said, "I'll retire next year, I already gave my all. I don't need to prove anything for anyone and within one year I'll put my gloves aside."

This could be the reason Silva has been asking for several fights in a row, in both 205 and 185. If Silva gets past Patrick Cote and makes a run for the UFC light heavyweight title, he could have a chance to hold two belts, which would make his retirement an amazing way to go out. That may be the plan of Silva, let's see how this pans out and if there is any validity to the rumor.
