UFC Heavyweight Division Wide Open

The next challenger for Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira's belt is up in the air. With Fedor, Couture and Barnett on the outs with the UFC, CroCop heading east to Japan, Arlovski apparently going to jump ship as well, many contenders are not in UFC's heavyweight division. Right now the UFC could put Werdum in against Nog if Werdum scores another win. Other than that you have Frank Mir, who defeated Hardonk and Lesnar, but hasn't really knocked off enough top level challengers as of late to earn a shot at the belt. Nonetheless at this point the pickings are slim and he could get a shot. He picked up a lot of steam in terms of popularity from beating Lesnar. If Kongo defeated Herring he would be a great pick as he'd have 2 straight wins over top level fighters (Herring and Cro Cop). But as for now, Mir is up there and Werdum lurking in the shadows as well. The division needs an injection of more talent into the UFC, but these days there's more of an exodus than inflow into the organization at heavyweight. So the current talent in the UFC are a couple wins away from a shot at gold. The division is wide open.
