Yves Edwards wins in spectacular fashion

thugj.jpg

Yves Edwards, known for prolific striking, well roundedness and cool as a cucumber inside the cage, prevailed Saturday night in Elite XC over Edson Berto. The knockout knee was a thing of beauty. While it would be really hard to top his matrix-esque kick to the head KO over Josh Thomson at UFC 49, this knee to the jaw of Berto might have eclipsed it. Going for a single leg was Berto, while Yves was calculating the precise angle and location to aim his other knee on his free leg. Moments afterwards, Edwards leaped in the air and landed the pinpoint knee to Berto's head and knocked him out. It was shades of Urijah Faber versus Jeff Curran, where Faber landed a knee in similar fashion before winning via guillotine seconds later. Although this was more spectacular as it was much more devastating as Edwards finished him immediately from the impact. Big credit goes to Berto for fighting very well. He landed some nice strikes on Edwards and scored a nice takedown as well. Both fighters brought out the best in one another, but Saturday night was Edwards' night.
